# cmp-001 NPC Schedule — Thank You M'am Dimension

*Four-day campaign window: Saturday September 20 1958, 4 PM through Tuesday September 23 1958, morning. Lead-up week documented from Wednesday September 17.*

**Design principle.** Hughes-text-canonical and historically-documented NPCs are placed at specific times and specific places. Everything else (kitchenette neighbors with no canonical names, peers of Roger, customers at the Theresa beauty shop, congregants who are not named historical figures) is improvised live per session by the AI engine. The schedule below is what a DM can rely on without further reading.

The encounter beat (Mrs Jones and Roger, East 128th Street between Madison and Park, ~11:15 PM Saturday September 20) is sealed. All other beats can be visited or skipped based on the path the bookworms walk.

---

## Roster: text-canonical and documented-historical NPCs

These are the named characters who hold scheduled positions. Roles-without-names (other roomers, beauty-shop coworkers, Sunday-service congregants without documented attendance, Apollo audience, etc.) appear on the schedule by role only; the AI engine instantiates specifics at session-runtime.

Mrs Jones can choose grace because no other adult is watching her choose. The other roomers in the rear of the house can be heard laughing and talking through the wall per Hughes's text.

## Quest time-windows (when specific encounters are available)

**W1: King at Empire State Baptist Bookstore.** Wed Sept 17 ~2-4 PM only. Miss the window, miss the moment.

**W2: King at Williams Institutional CME.** Thu Sept 18 evening only. Bookworms attending the fundraiser interact with N03 and N04 in a relatively intimate fundraising-dinner setting.

**W3: Theresa sidewalk rally.** Fri Sept 19 ~7-9:30 PM only. The densest historical-NPC block of the lead-up week. After 9:30 PM the crowd disperses.

**W4: Blumstein's book signing.** Sat Sept 20 ~1-3:20 PM only. The 3:20 PM stabbing closes this window violently. Bookworms in the room before 3:20 can interact with N03, N04, N07, N08, NAACP officers. Bookworms in the room at 3:20 are witnesses to the canonical historical event.

**W5: Harlem Hospital vigil.** Sat Sept 20 ~4 PM through Mon Sept 22 morning. Sidewalk vigil and press gathering ongoing. N04 and (eventually) Coretta King reachable.

**W6: Mrs Jones-Roger encounter.** Sat Sept 20 ~11:15 PM through ~12:20 AM Sun. The sealed canonical sequence. Bookworms with the other-roomer entry vector hear it through the wall. Bookworms with the street-witness entry vector see Mrs Jones walking and Roger waiting. Bookworms with the Roger-shadow vector follow Roger. The window is roughly 65 minutes wall-clock and the canonical sequence runs the whole window.

**W7: Powell pivot-sermon at Abyssinian.** Sun Sept 21 11 AM only. The replaced-sermon address is the cmp-001 pedagogical pivot per cc-cmp001-ghost-firing-4-sunday-sermon.

**W8: Hughes workroom.** Open access throughout the four-day window via 20 East 127th. The mirror-portal mechanics per cc-cmp001-hughes-house and cc-cmp001-narrative-architecture apply.

**W9: Schomburg Sunday afternoon.** Sun Sept 21 1-5 PM reading room. Hughes himself on the board; a draft page reading may be possible per cc-cmp001-ghost-firing-6-hughes-typewriter.

---

## Movement patterns (where NPCs walk between)

**N01 Mrs Jones.** Hotel Theresa beauty parlor → 125th east → Madison Avenue north → East 128th between Madison and Park (her boarding house). ~7 blocks, ~15 minutes. Reverses in the morning. May add Sunday-morning detour to Abyssinian, Mother AME Zion, or Salem Methodist (Hughes-silent improv).

**N02 Roger.** Hughes-silent across the four-day window except for the canonical encounter beat. AI engine improvises his Saturday afternoon (streetball, candy store, corner, matinee) and Sunday-Monday-Tuesday positions per the household-configuration the seated group selects from cc-cmp001-realism-social types A-E.

**N03 King.** Wed bookstore → Theresa → Thu Williams CME → Theresa → Fri Theresa sidewalk → Theresa room → Sat Theresa morning → Blumstein's mezzanine → ambulance → Harlem Hospital ER → OR1 → recovery (stays at Harlem Hospital through window close).

**N04 Hedgeman.** Highly mobile across the week. Empire State Baptist Bookstore Wed, Williams CME Thu, Theresa Fri, Blumstein's Sat early afternoon, Harlem Hospital Sat 4 PM onward, Amsterdam News and New York Age offices Mon-Tue.

**N06 Powell.** Abyssinian rectory and pulpit. Sun 11 AM sermon is the canonical attended moment. Returns to DC Monday.

**N12 Hughes.** Mostly stationary at 20 East 127th workroom across the window. Possible Schomburg deposit-trip Sunday afternoon. The author lived through the action of his own story one block south of the encounter block.

## Time-cost-of-choice notes

The four-day window is finite. Bookworms cannot attend every quest window. Some choices block others.

* W4 Blumstein's and W6 Mrs Jones-Roger are 8.5 hours apart but the Saturday afternoon stabbing reshapes the city; bookworms processing the news Sat 4-11 PM may be less spatially available for the encounter-block path.
* W5 Hospital vigil and W7 Powell-pivot overlap structurally; one's Sunday morning is at Harlem Hospital or at Abyssinian, not both.
* W8 Hughes workroom is open-access but the mirror-portal crossing reshapes the bookworm's layer-state; once crossed, the cmp-001 surface is different on return.
* W2 Williams CME and W3 Theresa rally are both evening events on consecutive nights; both can be attended, but if a bookworm has not chosen the entry vector by Thursday they are committed to a different opening.

---

## What is NOT pre-committed

Per the existing cc-cmp001-clock AI engine note: Hughes-text-canonical events anchor Roger and Mrs Jones in their Saturday-night beats. The schedule above adds documented-historical NPCs at documented times. Everything else (Roger's household composition, kitchenette neighbors' names, Mrs Jones's church affiliation, beauty-parlor coworkers, specific Apollo audience, peripheral Sunday-service congregants, the desk sergeant on duty at the 28th, Amsterdam News compositor on shift, period passersby) is improvised live per session paths.

DM does not need to read all 379 cc-cmp001-* entries before running. DM reads: (1) Hughes 1958 short story (~15 minutes), (2) this schedule, (3) cc-cmp001-narrative-architecture for the mirror-portal mechanics, (4) cc-cmp001-ghost-firing-* entries for the four ghost-exegesis activation points. Total prep ~90 minutes from cold start.
