Toronto Seminars and Talks
An aggregated calendar of upcoming free public lectures, panels, and cinema events with director Q and A across the Greater Toronto Area. Author readings, artist talks, scholar talks, philosophy cafes, and gatherings appear as venues add them. Curated for substantive content. Updated daily.
How this calendar works
An aggregator pulls listings from venues across the city once a day. Each candidate is checked against four conditions before it appears here. The event has a known time and place. Someone has prepared something to offer. The format invites substantive engagement (not a passive screening unless the filmmaker is in attendance for discussion). And the matter on offer is one a thinking person could find a stake in.
Events that fail the check are dropped. The list is not exhaustive, by design. Venues currently in rotation:
- Centre for Ethics, Jackman Humanities Institute, Munk School, Massey College, Hart House, Victoria College, ROM Speaks, and other University of Toronto venues.
- Toronto Public Library Appel Salon, Type Books, Glad Day Bookshop, and the International Festival of Authors.
- Revue Cinema, The Royal, Paradise Theatre, Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema, and TIFF Bell Lightbox (filtered to events with the filmmaker present for discussion).
- The Power Plant, Art Gallery of Ontario, and the Museum of Contemporary Art (artist talks and curated conversations).
- PhilEvents Ontario filter for academic philosophy events not surfaced elsewhere.
- The Agora at Earl Bales Park, hosted by Seminar Schools.
