Policies

A few things to know before booking. These are not fine print. They protect both sides and let the academy run sessions without administrative friction.

Read this once before your first booking. The first consultation is free and has no commitment from either side. Everything below applies after the student decides to enrol.
i. Cancellations and rescheduling

Life happens. Most of the time, it's fine.

Cancel or reschedule with at least 72 hours notice and there is no charge.

Each student gets three free cancels per month. After that, the 72-hour window starts to apply.

What happens inside the 72-hour window

Within 72 hours, the academy may charge a portion of the session depending on circumstances.

If the student does not show up without notice, the full session is charged.

ii. If a teacher has to cancel

Time is the currency. Disrupting a student's time has a cost.

Teachers have three free short-notice cancels per calendar month, the same monthly allowance students have. After the three free cancels are used, additional short-notice teacher cancellations apply the credit rules below.

If a teacher cancels at least 48 hours before the session, the session is fully refunded to the student's package balance and rebooked at a mutually agreeable time. No additional credit applies.

If a teacher cancels less than 48 hours before the session, the student's package balance is refunded AND the next session gains 15 additional minutes as an apology for the disruption.

If the disruption is greater

If a teacher cancels less than 12 hours before, or fails to show up at all, the student's package balance is refunded AND the next session gains 25 additional minutes.

The same standards a teacher holds students to, the teacher holds themselves to.

iii. Running late

There is a 15-minute grace window.

If a student arrives within 15 minutes of the scheduled start, the session runs as normal, just shorter.

After the grace window

After 15 minutes of silence, the session converts to a no-show.

iv. Repeated no-shows

Three no-shows in a calendar month places the student on academic probation.

Probation does not stop the student from booking sessions on a package they have already paid for. Probation does pause the ability to purchase a new package.

If the student finishes a probation month without further no-shows, probation auto-clears at month-end and package purchase returns to normal. If another no-show occurs during the probation month, probation extends another month.

How this works in practice

The academy treats this as gentle academic probation rather than punishment. The intent is to make sure the student finishes what they have already committed to before scaling up further. If circumstances genuinely warrant immediate package renewal during probation, contact Saul directly.

v. Seminar courses

Seminar work needs preparation. The earlier sessions build that.

Some courses are taught one-on-one. Others are taught in seminar format with a small group of students.

Seminar courses require some foundation of one-on-one work first.

What the foundation looks like

The foundation is typically 20 to 40 sessions, depending on readiness.

The seminar is not a gate. It is a stage of the work that some preparation makes possible.

vi. Format and venue

Online by default. In-person available in Toronto.

Sessions run online over Google Meet by default. Online courses receive a 5% discount per session.

In-person sessions are available in Toronto for an additional $5 per session.

Paper materials are only available with in-person sessions for an additional $5 per session.

vii. Payment

Packages are paid upfront. Sessions are drawn from the package.

Leizu sells packages, not individual sessions. The smallest package is three sessions. The largest is the year-long Forest or Seminar tier. Each package is paid in full at the time of booking.

Cancellations and no-shows draw from your package balance under the rules above. Sessions cancelled with at least 72 hours notice do not count against the package.

Refunds for unused sessions in a package are available within 14 days of the package start date. Beyond that, unused sessions remain available for one year from the start date.

Exact payment terms for the Forest year and Seminar year subscriptions are confirmed at consultation. Both have multiple payment-structure options.

viii. Seminar tier eligibility

The seminar tier is gated by demonstrated readiness, not session count alone.

The seminar tier costs half the per-session rate of one-on-one instruction. It becomes available between 20 and 40 sessions of prior one-on-one work, with the exact threshold determined by observable readiness rather than raw session count alone.

Observable readiness means a student can sustain engagement across a session without prompting, can discuss assigned texts independently and respond to other students' positions, and has developed the reading discipline that lets seminar work happen at the pace of group discussion. The auto-flag at 40 sessions exists because most students who reach that threshold meet the readiness criteria; below 40, the teacher exercises judgment within the 20-to-40 range.

Seminar work makes one teaching session reach several students at once. The 50% per-session discount reflects that economic reality, not a quality difference in instruction.

ix. Non-discrimination

Leizu Academy abides with the Ontario Human Rights Code.

Admission to courses, eligibility for the seminar tier, scholarship decisions, and all other aspects of the practice are administered without discrimination on the grounds protected by the Ontario Human Rights Code, including race, ancestry, place of origin, colour, ethnic origin, citizenship, creed, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, marital status, family status, or disability.

If a student or parent believes a decision has been made on a discriminatory basis, the complaint process below applies.

x. Complaint resolution

Disputes are resolved in writing within fourteen days.

Complaints about teaching, billing, scheduling, eligibility decisions, or any other aspect of the practice can be raised by emailing saulnassau@protonmail.com with the subject line beginning "Complaint."

A written response addressing the complaint is provided within fourteen days. If the response does not resolve the matter, the student or parent retains all rights under the Ontario Consumer Protection Act 2002 and may contact the Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Public and Business Service Delivery, or another appropriate body. Nothing in these policies waives any right the student has under provincial or federal law.

xi. Compliance framework

Leizu Academy abides with the laws of Ontario and Canada.

The practice operates inside the Ontario Consumer Protection Act 2002 (which governs how packages are sold, refunded, and disclosed), the Ontario Human Rights Code (which governs non-discrimination in service provision), and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (which governs how student information is collected, stored, and used).

Student information collected at consultation and during teaching is used only to deliver the service and is not sold or shared with third parties. Records are retained for the duration of the package plus seven years for tax purposes, after which they are destroyed. Students may request access to their own records or correction of inaccurate information at any time.
